2011 Potsdam Conference Highlights
The Osteopathic International Alliance (OIA) held our 2011 Annual Conference and General Meeting 29-30 September in Potsdam, Brandenburg, Germany. The OIA partnered with the Osteopathic European Academic Network (OsEAN) to present "Teaching Palpation," which was part of the larger "Thorax - Movement, Breathing, Life" conference, hosted by the German Osteopathic Association (VOD) and German Association for Osteopathic Physicians (DGOM).
In attendance at the OIA-OsEAN conference were more than 140 osteopathic registrants from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxemburg, New Zealand, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The OIA's business meeting closed the conference, where the Full membership elected three representatives to the Board of Directors.
- Peter Ajluni, DO (US), was re-elected to the Board, where he currently serves as the Secretary-Treasurer. Dr Ajluni is a past president of the AOA-US and serves on the Board of the American Osteopathic Foundation.
- Jane Carreiro, DO (US), who was nominated by and represents the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO), was elected to her first term on the Board. Dr Carreiro is currently serving as president of the AAO and is the Section Head, Chair and Associate Professor of OMM; DME/Program Director, Graduate Medical Education at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.
- Karen Nichols, DO (US), who was nominated by and represents the American Osteopathic Association (AOA-US), was elected by acclamation to her first term on the Board. Dr Nichols is the immediate past president of the (AOA-US) and Dean of the Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.
- The OIA Board of Directors is composed of nine directors currently representing six organizations, plus one lay member, from five countries. All seats are three-year terms.
