mr Clive Standen, DO (UK), Chair
Mr. Standen graduated from the British School of Osteopathy (London) in 1978 and completed an MA in Philosophy & Healthcare at the University of Wales in 1993. He was Principal and Chief Executive of the BSO from 1990 to 1998. Clive has lectured and examined in many different countries, including France, Italy, Canada, Russia, Sweden and Norway, developing educational osteopathy programmes in several of those countries. In 1999 he was the first complementary health practitioner to be appointed to the position of Non-Executive Director on the Board of a National Health Service Hospital Trust. Since 2001 he has been Associate Professor and Associate Head of School for Osteopathy at Unitec in Auckland, New Zealand. He was responsible for the development and implementation of the Master of Osteopathy degree that comprises the second element of Unitec's five-year osteopathic education programme.
Dr. Adler-Michaelson Peter Adler-Michaelson, DO (US), PhD, Vice-Chair
Dr. Adler-Michaelson graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1981. He has received Board Certifications from the American Boards in Emergency Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (NMM/OMM), as well as from the German Boards of Family Practice and Manual Medicine. His PhD is in Medical Education from the University of Bern, Switzerland. In addition to several US state licenses, Dr Adler-Michaelson holds an unlimited license to practice medicine in Germany. He is currently the President of the German-American Academy of Osteopathy (DAAO). He divides his time between teaching in both countries and his two private OMM/NMM practices in Wangen, Germany, and Wilmington, North Carolina, USA.
Dr. Buser Boyd Buser, DO (US), Secretary-Treasurer
Dr. Buser graduated from the Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in 1981 and is Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Associations Boards in both family medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine. Dr Buser is the Vice President and Dean at the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine (PCSOM). Dr Buser has had an active role on various AOA-US Bureaus and Committees, including the Committee on Socioeconomic Affairs and the Bureau of Osteopathic Clinical Effectiveness, and currently serves on the AOA-US Board of Trustees. From 1986-1999, Dr Buser was Professor & Chairman of the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at UNECOM and was tenured in 1993. He served as President of the American Academy of Osteopathy from 1995-1996. Dr Buser has given countless educational presentations to numerous osteopathic, medical, and specialty societies.
Dr. Ajluni Peter Ajluni, DO (US), At-Large Member
Dr. Ajluni, DO, a board certified osteopathic orthopaedic surgeon from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, was elected to the OIA Board of Directors in November 2008. He also served as the 2007-2008 president of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA-US). He began his career on the AOA-US Board of Trustees in 1998 and was a member of the AOAs Executive Committee from 2000-2005. Dr Ajluni was a senior orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Clemens (Michigan) Regional Medical Center where he also served as chief of staff. He also serves on the Membership Committee of the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA). After earning his degree in 1969 from the Chicago College of Osteopathy, now known as Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois, Dr. Ajluni completed an internship and residency at Mount Clemens General Hospital.
John B. Crosby, JD John B. Crosby, JD, At-Large Member
Mr. Crosby is the Executive Director of the AOA-US, which proudly represents its professional family of more than 67,000 osteopathic physicians. John joined the AOA-US as Executive Director in 1997, following eight years of service at the American Medical Association (AMA) as Senior Vice President for Health Policy. During his time at the AOA-US John has participated in medical outreach work in Guatemala, worked with the World Heath Organisation, and is a founding member of the OIA Board of Directors.
Evylnne Gilvarry Evylnne Gilvarry, At-Large Member
Ms. Gilvarry is Chief Executive and Registrar of the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), the body which regulates the practice of osteopathy in the UK. She joined the GOsC in November 2007. Previously she worked in various senior policy and management roles at the Law Society, the regulator and professional body for solicitors in England and Wales. She is qualified as a lawyer and mediator.
Dr. Mayer Johannes Mayer, MD, DOM (DE), At-Large Member
Dr. Mayer earned his MD degree in 1981, became board certified in Family Medicine in 1986 and went into private practice in 1987, providing Family medicine and osteopathic care. In 1987 he earned his manual medicine degree and in 2000 he earned his DOM from the German Society of Osteopathic Medicine (DGOM). Dr med Mayer is currently the Vice President of the DGOM, President of the European Register of Osteopathic Physicians (EROP), and was elected to the OIA Board of Directors in January 2008.
Mulholland-Licht Michael Mulholland-Licht, DO (AU)
Michael Mulholland-Licht, DO graduated Pacific College of Osteopathic Medicine, Sydney, Australia in 1985 and was registered with the NSW Osteopaths Registration board in 1986 where he served as an Advisor during the 2001 review of Osteopaths Act 2000-2001. He has been in private practice in Sydney, Australia since 1986. Since 2002, he has served as guest lecturer, examiner and Clinical Supervisor, Vienna School of Osteopathy Masters Osteopathy program and previously as guest lecturer and examiner University of Western Sydney, Masters Osteopathy program. He is the author and tutor for the Sydney University Osteopathy Module, Distance Education Pain Management from 2007 to present. He was President of the Australian Osteopathic Association (AOA-AU) 2001-2002, and currently serves as AOA(AU) International Liaison Officer. He was President of the World Osteopathic Health Organisation (WOHO) from 2003-2008 and contributed as expert adviser to WOHO Benchmarks for Safety and Training in Osteopathy from 2004-2007. He currently Chairs the Australian and New Zealand Osteopathic Council, which is responsible for accreditation of university programs, teaching osteopathy, and assessment of overseas qualified osteopaths.
Dr. Fielding Simon Fielding, DO (UK), OBE, Lay Member
Simon Fielding originally qualified as an osteopath in the UK 25 years ago but retired from clinical practice due to injury in 1988. He has devoted much of his professional life to the campaign for the legal recognition of osteopathy both in the UK and elsewhere in Europe and is widely regarded as being the architect of the UK Osteopaths Act 1993. He was appointed the first Chairman of the Statutory General Osteopathic Council in 1996. Simon was the Specialist Adviser to the Department of Health on Complementary Medicine for 13 years, retiring in 2002. He is currently a trustee of The Prince of Wales's Foundation for Integrated Health and Chairs the Foundation's Committee on Regulation.
Linda Mascheri Linda Mascheri, OIA Secretariat
Linda Mascheri joined the AOA-US in 1994 and currently serves as the Director of the Department of State, Affiliate, Socioeconomic and International Affairs. Under her leadership, the AOA-USs Division of International Affairs focuses on working to develop global osteopathic educational standards, increasing recognition for the profession worldwide, and oversees the Bureau on International Osteopathic Medical Education and Affairs while also acting as the Secretariat for the OIA. Linda has been instrumental in the development and oversight of the OIA.
Bonnie Koenig Bonnie Koenig, OIA Consultant
Ms. Koenig has aided the OIA Steering Committee and Board of Directors as a consultant working with non-profit organisations on developing their strategic thinking and international programmes. She has worked for over 20 years with local, national and international organisations in the areas of developing international programme strategies, strategic planning, board and staff training, and other governance and management issues. Prior to beginning her consulting practice, Going International, in 1996, she was the Executive Director of Zonta International, a service organisation with members in 65 countries, and the Council of Great Lakes Governors. Bonnie is the author of the book Going Global the Greater Good: Succeeding as a Non-profit in the International Community (Jossey Bass, 2004), as well as numerous articles about the operations of non-profit organisations. She has an MA from Yale University in International Relations. Bonnie has lived in Australia, China, France and Mauritania, West Africa and has travelled to over 40 countries.
Josh Kerr Joshua Kerr, OIA Secretariat
Joshua Kerr joined the AOA-US in 2004 as International Program Specialist in the Division of State Government and International Affairs, and currently serves as Assistant Director of the Division of International Affairs. In that time he has been involved with the founding and development of the OIA, since its inception as a steering committee. Joshua also serves as Secretary to the AOA-US Bureau on International Osteopathic Medical Education & Affairs (BIOMEA) as well as Secretariat to the OIA, overseeing the day to day activities of both groups.
Verna Bronersky Verna Bronersky, OIA Program Manager
Verna began working at the AOA-US in 1996 as Manager of the Division of Postdoctoral Training, where she spent seven years assisting osteopathic postdoctoral trainees and physicians with petitions for review of their training for approval to the Council on Postdoctoral Training. In 2002, she earned her MBA and in 2003, was appointed Director of the newly-formed Division of Student, Intern and Resident Affairs, where her primary responsibility was to establish a strong relationship between the AOA-US and the US colleges of osteopathic medicine and its affiliate groups. In response to then-AOA President Darryl Beehler's presidential theme, she designed and maintained the AOA iLearn Mentor Exchange Program, and elicited over 5,000 mentors. In 2007, she was appointed Director of Outreach Programs, where her primary responsibility was to manage the AOA-US's Greatness Fund and continue working with the Mentor Program. In 2009, she was assigned as Project Manager for the Department of State, Affiliate, Socioeconomic & International Affairs where, in addition to managing the Greatness Fund, she supports initiatives within the OIA and Affiliate Affairs.
